James vs Dale

James vs Dale, Jonah vs the Whale

Which one is the zenith; cricket’s alpha male?

Swallowing men whole, like fish with no tail

New ball taken with batsmen to derail

Wickets coming aplenty, the economies of scale

Those things that swing, the swing of things

That awkward length from which the cherry springs

Jimmy’s control, Dale’s sharpest of stings

A tug and a tweak of the batman’s strings

The umpire’s raised finger, both feeling like kings

So which one is better, something over which to pore.

Who takes more wickets, off whom’s it harder to score?

Who’ll win in the end, we need a metaphor!

Like Achilles or Hector ; He-Man or Skelator?

My balls nailed to no mast, I’ll call it a draw

(…I really mean Steyn; soz Jimmy)

About wrongunatlongon

I'll muse on various subjects, mainly involving willow, leather and grass. My natural instincts is to heap as many compound adjectives as I can to sporting natterings. If you like, then feel free to link :)
