A Trip Down Memory Lane

I love Allan Donald, always have done ever since he was at Warwickshire. His glare, his pace, his menace, that duel with Athers. Mesmerisingly exciting. I wouldn’t describe him as being as good as McGrath, probably not as skilled as Wasim/Waqar, and possibly he wasn’t as good as new ball partner Shaun Pollock. He just had an unrivalled intensity, a genuine hatred of opposing batsmen, a fear factor and a spanking nickname ‘White Lightning’.

This is a clip I’d not seen before of him roughing up two well-set Waugh brothers (Mark in his late 90s, Steve mid 30s) with the new ball at the SCG. Also later on in the clip emerges a 23 year old Ricky Ponting.

About wrongunatlongon

I'll muse on various subjects, mainly involving willow, leather and grass. My natural instincts is to heap as many compound adjectives as I can to sporting natterings. If you like, then feel free to link :)
